PURPOSE: A cosmetic composition for skin whitening is provided to prevent or treat pigmentation such as freckle and melasma and to relieve skin irritation. CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for skin whitening contains Oldenlandia diffusa extract, beta-hydroxylic acid, and Liriope platyphyllla extract as an active ingredient. The Oldenlandia diffusa extract is contained in 0.001-10 weight%. The beta-hydroxylic acid is beta-hydroxybutyric acid, beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutylate, carnitine, 3-hydroxypropionic acid, or salicylic acid. The beta-hydroxylic acid is contains in 0.001-0.5 weight%.
