PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device in which a foreign matter clipped between an electro-optic panel and a backlight unit inside a mounting case is conveniently removed by facilitating removal of the backlight unit from the mounting case. SOLUTION: The electro-optical device includes: a mounting case 6 having a holding portion 44 protruding from sidewalls 41-43 to the inside formed therein; the electro-optic panel like a liquid crystal panel 2 and the like placed on one side of the holding portion 44 to be attached to the mounting case 6; and the backlight unit 3 placed on the other side of the holding portion 44 to be attached to the mounting case 6, wherein a notch 45 is formed on at least one sidewall of the sidewalls 41-43, on the side to which the backlight unit 3 is attached.
