<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record a focus detection point and focus detection data in a moment, when an image is captured, in an image file, and to enable a user to use the data. <P>SOLUTION: An image capturing apparatus includes: an image sensor which has a first pixel group that photoelectrically converts a subject image from a first exit pupil area of a photographic lens, a second pixel group that photoelectrically converts a subject image from a second exit pupil area of the photographic lens, and a third pixel group for imaging that photoelectrically converts the subject image from the exit pupil area including at least the first and second exit pupil areas of the photographic lens; a focus detection unit which detects focus information on the photographic lens by using a first image signal obtained from the first pixel group and a second image signal obtained from the second pixel group; an image processing unit which converts imaged data imaged by the third pixel group into the image file to be recorded and saved; and a data recording unit which records detected data detected by the first and second pixel groups.
