<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene-transferring agent excellent in intracellular DNA releasability and proton acceptability, with no problem of cell poisoning, and to provide a nucleic acid complex using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The gene-transferring agent is made up of a polymeric material having branched chains. In the agent, each of the branched chains includes a copolymer of strongly basic cationic monomer and weakly basic cationic monomer; wherein it is preferable that the strongly basic cationic monomer is 3-N, N-dimethylaminopropyl acrylamide and/or a derivative thereof, while the weakly basic cationic monomer is 2-N, N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and/or a derivative thereof.
