PURPOSE: A liquid crystal is provided to obtain a low rotational viscosity, a very short switching time, and a large operation temperature range and to have an inclined penetration straight line and excellent angular dependency of a contrast. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal medium uses polar compounds having positive or negative dielectric anisotropy as a base material and includes one or more compounds marked as a chemical formula 1. Functional groups of chemical formulas (1)(2)(3) are 1,4- cyclohexenylene or 1,4- cyclohexylene radical, 1,4- phenylene radical, and a radical selected from a group comprising piperidine -1,4- diyl, 1,4- bicyclo [2.2.2] octylene, naphthalene -2,6- diyl, decahydro naphthalene -2,6- diyl, 1,2,3,4- tetra hydro naphthalene -2,6- diyl, and phenanthrene -2,7- diyl.
