PURPOSE: An ice maker and a control method thereof are provided to reduce loss of cool air while ice is discharged and to easily discharge ice. CONSTITUTION: An ice maker comprises: a duct(10) which ice is drawn through; a duct opening/shutting part(20) which opens and closes the duct; a sensor part(30) which senses the relative position of the duct opening/shutting part about the duct; a controller part which opens the duct by controlling the duct opening/shutting part except the case which the duct opening/shutting part is located in the location to shield the duct is detected by the sensor part within a preset time after the operation of the duct opening/shutting part is started.
