PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auto-tensioner restricting lowering of braking force. SOLUTION: This auto-tensioner 1 includes: a base member 3; an arm member 5 rotatably supported relative to the base member 3 and to which a pulley 4, on which a transmission belt is wound, can be attached; a coil spring 6 provided with one end latched to the base member 3, and the other end latched to the arm member 5, and that thereby urges the arm member 5 toward the base member 3 in one direction and is arranged in a radially compressed state; a plate spring 19 provided with a first plate spring end 19b latched to the arm member 5 and a second plate spring end 19b formed into a free end, and that extends along the inner circumferential face 9a of a base outer cylinder 9 of the base member 3; and a friction member 20 that is joined so as to contact the inner circumferential face 9a of the base outer cylinder 9 of the base member 3 and so as to be incapable of relative movement in the circumferential direction with respect to the elastic body 19. The friction member 20 is pressed with respect to the arm member 5 by means of the repulsive force with which the coil spring 6 attempts to extend in the axial direction.
