<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology allowing facilitation of operability of a user when retrieving an image disclosed on the Internet, and allowing the user to efficiently acquire a desired image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image retrieval device has: a representative partial image generation means for generating a representative partial image corresponding to an index word based on an image associated in each index word; a representative partial image database registration means for registering the representative partial image in each index word; and a classification means for classifying the image used for the generation of the representative partial image in association with the representative partial image generated based on the image. The image retrieval device also has: a representative partial image presentation means for retrieving and presenting the representative partial image associated to the index word, in response to a retrieval request; and a retrieval result presentation means for retrieving the image classified by the representative partial image selected by user operation, out of the presented representative partial images, and presenting it.
