PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to improve the exposure accuracy of the exposure unit by correcting the bias amount in the sub-scanning direction of emitted light. CONSTITUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises image carriers(137), an exposure unit, an optical sensor(150) and a control unit. The exposure unit irradiates light to the image carriers according to an exposure signal. The optical sensor is arranged on one side of the image carriers and receives a part of the emitted light. The control unit detects the bias amount in the sub-scanning direction(Y) of the emitted light of the exposure unit based on the sensing result of the optical sensor.
