The method involves providing a safety switch component (9) for safe switching off an electrical load. The safety switch component is connected at a controller by an input output (IO)-link connection (11). The safety switch component fulfills the safety category 3 of the European standard 954-1. A power supply of the safety switch component takes place over the IO link. An independent claim is included for a safety switch component for an industrial automation system for safe switching off an electrical load.
