A granular fuel-fired boiler brazier (20) of the type having a brazier base (21) movable periodically from an operative position retaining fuel and ash F in the brazier to a discharge position, shown partially open to allow ash contents F to fall out of the brazier (20). Fragmentation means (35) operate on moving the base to break up the fuel and ash contents F.
