<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner capable of easily discharging dust. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes a dust collecting container which has an introduction port for introducing rotational air flow containing dust and an opening to be the exit of air and collects the dust by the rotational air flow. The dust collecting container includes a cyclone dust collecting device provided with an opening for discharging the dust, a helical rotation compression part 123 for compressing the dust inside a dust collecting chamber, a lid part 310 fitted to the opening 330, a turning mechanism 510 for turnably attaching the lid part 310 to the dust collecting container 11, and first and second engaging parts 520 and 530 capable of engaging the lid part 310 with the dust collecting container 11. The first and second engaging parts 520 and 530 are provided on both sides of a line connecting the turning mechanism 510 and the center of the lid part 310 respectively, and the dust compressed in the helical rotation compression part 123 is discharged from the opening 330 to the outside of the dust collecting container 11 by opening the lid part 310.
