<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road marking recognition device, with high precision and simple processing, detecting a road marking existing on a road even if there is a disturbance factor such as a change in shadow or weather. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The device acquires an image of a road surface of a one's own vehicle traveling road from an image photographing device 1, detects feature portions 31, 32, 33 of a road marking 30 from the image of the road surface, adds degrees of confidence of detection to each of the feature portions 31, 32, 33, and determines that the road marking to be detected is recognized if the degree of confidence of detection is higher than a threshold. If the degrees of confidence of detection is lower than the threshold, the device changes a detection condition from the degrees of confidence of detection and identity degrees of the feature portions, re-detects the feature portions with low degrees of confidence of detection under an appropriate detection condition, and determines whether the road marking is one to be detected.
