<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus, capable of surely discriminating whether content data is copied from a removable recording medium into a built-in memory, and also performing a discrimination by an optimum processing load. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus for recording/reproducing encoded content data and management data for the content data in/from a first detachable recording medium and a second built-in recording medium includes: a decoding means for decoding the content data; an analysis means for analyzing the management data; and a discrimination means for performing first discrimination, based on the analysis means and second discrimination, based on the decoding of a part of the content data by the decoding means: wherein when the content data recorded in the first recording medium is to be copied to the second recording medium, the propriety of copying is discriminated.
