<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation caused by moisture so as not to affect an organic electroluminescent element. <P>SOLUTION: This organic electroluminescent device includes first and second substrates 10, 12 facing with a space; the organic electroluminescent element 16 provided on a first surface 14, facing the second substrate 12, of the first substrate 10; a desiccant 22 provided on a second surface 20, facing the first substrate 10, of the second substrate 12; and resin 24 bonded to the first and second surfaces 14, 20 to cover the desiccant 22 and the organic electroluminescent element 16. The desiccant 22 has a portion of the second surface 20 that surrounds the whole region on the outside of a region facing the organic electroluminescent element 16.
