<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively wash and remove at a low-cost adhesive foreign substances, such as tar and pitch, which stick to the surface of canvas and inside the canvas and are difficult to eliminate by a conventional washing cleaning method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Adhesive foreign substances are effectively cleaned and removed from the inside of and surface of canvas by sticking to the running canvas a slot surface of steam pipe having a slot for steam spray in the width direction to make the steam penetrate the canvas while the steam is expanded explosively inside the canvas. The apparatus has a more simple structure and can be produced at a lower cost, compared to the conventional apparatus.
