<p>A hybrid nanostructure comprises at least one semiconductor nanoparticle bound to a photosynthetic unit of a photosynthetic organism, and the methods of making and using the hybrid nanostructure. The semiconductor nanoparticle and the binding between the nanoparticle and the photosynthetic unit are suitable for an efficient forster energy transfer of excitons from the nanoparticle to the photosynthetic unit. The hybrid nanostructure is suitable for light energy harvesting.</p>
