PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for detecting, identifying or quantifying bacterial DNA. SOLUTION: A DNA-based method is provided. The method employs an amplification primer or probe for detecting, identifying and quantifying the DNA in a test sample from (i) an arbitrary bacterium, (ii) the species Enterococcus faecium, Listeria monocytogenes, Neisseria meningitidis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Streptococcus agalactiae and Candida albicans, and (iii) any species of the genus Enterococcus, Neisseria, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and Candida.
