<p>The method involves a generating a set of useful data blocks in reference images for each image macro block to be decoded (MBn), during prediction of movement of image macro blocks. A reference macro block is obtained from a calculated movement vector and added in a memory e.g. small size cache memory, during compensation of the movement. The reference macro block to be deleted is determined based on defined probability criteria during movement prediction. The reference macro block is deleted from the memory.
