An arc welding system comprises a primary source of power 10 insufficient to cause spray transfer and a secondary source 12 providing a series of pulses through a controlled rectifier CR. The pulses are obtained from a 3-phase half-wave rectifier 22, 24 and the rectifier can be triggered to give 150 pulses per second or a submultiple of this figure, e.g. 50, 25 and 12¢ o.p.s. The angle of conduction of the rectifier can also be varied.</p> |
