The device (5) has an ignition transformer (6) developed in two stages (7, 8). One of the ignition stages (7) of the ignition transformer is electrically connected with the other ignition stage (8) of the ignition transformer. The latter ignition stage is electrically coupled with a circuit (2) having a discharge lamp (3). The ignition transformer is arranged within an electronic operating equipment (4) i.e. electronic ballast, for the discharge lamp. A transformation factor of the former ignition stage amounts between 8 and 12.
