摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) apparatus and method, for reducing eddy currents generated accompanying the temporal change of gradient magnetic fields to be applied to an object. SOLUTION: By using positioning image data from a pilot imaging mode, an input part 8 sets reference imaging conditions (i.e. the position of a slice cross section during the actual imaging mode, a gradient magnetic field polarity to be used for collecting an MR signal in the slice cross section, and the phase-encoding direction of the gradient magnetic field) during the actual imaging mode for collecting diagnostic image data. A stimulus index calculating part 10 calculates a stimulus index in the gradient magnetic field polarity and the phase-encoding direction which are successively renewed by an imaging condition renewing part 9. A control part 16 generates diagnostic image data during the actual imaging mode, based on the optimum imaging condition having the gradient magnetic field polarity and phase-encoding direction that provides the lowest stimulus index.
