<p>The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1027970/C2/1> where R and R1 represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing 1-6 carbon atoms, and the dotted line represents an optional bond. The compounds are made by ethynylation of an aldehyde <FORM:1027970/C2/2> with acetylene, an acetylide or an acetyleneGrignard reagent. Examples relate to (1) 3-hydroxy - 5,9 - dimethyl - decen - 8 - yne - 1, (2) 3 - hydroxy - 5,9 - dimethyl - undecen - 8 - yne - 1, (3) 3,6,7 - trimethyl - octadien - 2,6-al-(1), (4) 3 - hydroxy - 5,9 - dimethyl - decyne-1 and (5) a mixture obtained by using citronella oil as the aldehyde. The aldehyde starting materials are made by catalytic hydrogenation of the corresponding aldehyde containing an additional double bond.</p> |
