PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of operation required for template matching. SOLUTION: A reference information about an image to be tracked is memorized (Fig. 5 (b)). A subject field image of a subject field is image-formed by an image forming optical system, and the image-formed subject field image is repeatedly captured. A partial image is part of the subject field image (Fig. 5 (a)), and the partial image is segmented (Fig. 5 (c)-(e)). The partial image is divided so that a region corresponding to a plurality of pixels may become one block in the partial image (Fig. 5 (c)-(e)). An image information on at least one of color information and brightness information is computed for every block.
