<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that prevents a user from forgetting to take an authentication device away. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the authentication device is set at a detection unit 15 of an authentication device, the authentication device reads authentication data of the authentication device using a reader unit 17. Then the read information is used to determines how many times recovery processing for recovery from a state wherein invalidation processing is performed on part of the authentication data to a state wherein validation is performed is performed. When the number of times exceeds a predetermined frequency, predetermined processing is carried out so as to prevent the user from forgetting to take the authentication device away.
