A glass roll utilizing a flange-equipped winding core, wherein breakage of a glass film starting from the ends of the glass film in the lateral direction thereof is reliably minimized. A glass roll (1) formed by winding a glass film (4) and a cushioning sheet (5) around a winding core (3) with the glass film (4) and the cushioning sheet (5) superposed on each other, the winding core (3) having flanges (2) at opposite ends thereof.  Projecting sections (5a) are formed on both sides of the glass film (4) in the lateral direction thereof by separating the ends of the glass film (4) in the lateral direction thereof from the flanges (2) and by causing the cushioning sheet (5) to project to the flange (2) side from the ends of the glass film (4) in the lateral direction thereof.
