<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertically laid exterior structure high in wind pressure resisting strength (negative pressure) to cause neither detachment of a cover material nor deformation of an exterior material even under the action of such powerful negative pressure as to flutter a face plate part. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The vertically laid exterior structure comprises: the exterior material 1 having molded parts 12 at the right and left side edges of the face plate part 11; a lower holding member 2 disposed on the rear face side of the molded parts 12; and an upper holding member 3 disposed on the front face side of the molded parts 12. The molded part 12 of the exterior material 1 comprises an engaging part 121 in the middle of rising height, and held parts 122, 123 in a higher position and a lower position than the engaging part 121 respectively. The lower holding member 2 has an engaged part 22 with which the engaging part 121 of the exterior material 1 is elastically engaged. The upper holding member 3 has an upper holding part 31 holding the upper held part 122 of the exterior material 1 at least with the lower holding member 2, and a lower holding part 32 holding down the lower held part 123 of the exterior material 1 from above.
