<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability of a rotary damper while simplifying it. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this rotary damper 10, a rotary arm 12 is rockably arranged in a housing 11, and the outer periphery of an elastic hose 15 is arranged along the inner periphery of the housing 11 along a rocking range of the rotary arm 12. An oil chamber 16 filled with a hydraulic fluid is formed in the hose 15, and the hose 15 is nippingly pressed between the inner periphery of the housing 11 and itself by pushing a chip part of the rotary arm 12 against the inner periphery of the hose 15 in respective rocking positions of the rotary arm 12. The oil chamber 16 in the hose 15 is partitioned into two oil chambers 16 on both sides of a nippingly pressing part 15A by the chip part of the rotary arm 12, and a throttling channe 18 is arranged for communicating the two oil chambers 16, and damping force is generated by passing the hydraulic fluid through this throttling channel 18 when rocking the rotary arm 12.
