The clamping element (1) has a lengthy carrier, and a fastening element e.g. bracket, for detachable fastening of the clamping element to clamping tongues (42, 44), where the clamping element acts together with a gripped object or a counter clamping tongue respectively in a clamping region. The width of the lengthy carrier corresponds to the width of the clamping tongues in the region of arms. Two mutually distanced clamping regions are arranged on the carrier such that the clamping regions are in the region of the arms during applying the clamping element to the clamping tongues. The clamping regions are formed by an elastically deformable cushion-like thickening on a carrier. An independent claim is also included for a gripper for gripping flat objects comprising two clamping tongues pivotable in relation to one another about a pivot axis.
