<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus eliminating liquid absorbing particles that remain on an intermediate transfer body even after a transfer process, after changing the liquid absorbing particles into an easy-to-eliminate state. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid absorbing particles 100 remaining on a belt 10 even after the transfer process are cooled by a cooling means 15. The liquid absorbing particles 100 are thereby changed into the state in which the liquid absorbing particles 100 can be easily eliminated by an eliminating means 16 disposed downstream in the rotating direction of the belt. The liquid absorbing particles 100a hardened by cooling into the easy-to-eliminate state are scraped off by the eliminating means 16 disposed downstream in the belt rotating direction from the cooling means 15.
