PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a conduction failure to a motor by a micro-processor. SOLUTION: The driving device 10 of a stepping motor makes control so as to execute conduction of each coil 94, 95 at a current value fixed at each step, according to a predetermined excitation pattern, is equipped with: a micro-processor 1 which performs command output so as to shift each step according to the excitation pattern; a control circuit 20 for executing conduction of each coil so as to obtain the current value fixed at the step based on the command output; a current detecting means 11 for detecting the conduction current value of each coil; an adding means 71, 72 for totaling each detected current value to obtain the absolute value thereof; and a current stopping means 74, 75 for cutting off the conduction of each coil when the absolute value of the detected total current exceeds the predetermined value.
