<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost pneumatic tire manufacturing method which can form a required air discharging groove exactly, surely, and efficiently in a prescribed shape in the outer surface of a strip of crude rubber with its thickness changed in width direction and suppress the formation of a recess by residual air in the surface of a finished tire by surely discharging air between the strip of the crude rubber and a vulcanization mold. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the pneumatic tire manufacturing method, in the curved outer surface of the crude rubber 9 with its outer surface formed in a cross-sectional shape curved in the width direction, a groove forming roll 33 which rotates around an axis which rectangularly crosses the longitudinal direction of the crude rubber 9 and is parallel to the width direction of the outer surface of the crude rubber and has a plurality of convex bars 34 on the outer surface of a cylinder shorter than the width of the crude rubber is pressed to form the air discharging groove, the strip of crude rubber 9 with the groove in which the crude rubber 9 with the groove formed is cut in a prescribed length is charged in the vulcanization mold, and the vulcanization is carried out.
