a method for processing instant message report or instant message, a message server and a terminal are provided, which belong to the communication field. The method includes following steps: the instant message report sent from the second terminal to the first terminal is received; the present state of the second terminal is obtained; that the present state of the second terminal is off-line is judged; the instant message report which will be sent to the first terminal is saved. The message server includes a receiving module and a judging module. The terminal includes a message module and a judging module. Application of the present invention can coordinate the delivery and present state of the instant message report, avoid the user's real on-line state being exposed by the instant message report, and protect the user's privacy, insure the user's service experience.
