Liquified gas is transferred from a vessel 1 to a vessel 2 by withdrawing gas from the vessel 2, compressing it in a compressor 6 in which the gas passes through an intermediate and after cooler, and feeding it to the vessel 1 through a throttle valve 7. Gas entering the vessel 1 is brought into heat exchange relationship with gas being withdrawn from the vessel 2 in a heat exchanger 5.
