<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively/efficiently use vehicle kinetic energy in deceleration of a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: By knowing in advance a travel distance to a target point such as a vehicle stop point from a vehicle present position, a vehicle travel speed at the present time, deceleration when coasting of a vehicle, or target point arrival time, possibility/impossibility of arrival at the stop point when starting the coast from a present point is decided. When the arrival is possible, the coast from the point is started. When the arrival is impossible, the above operation is repeated every time traveling a prescribed distance from the vehicle present point, and the coast is started at a time point when the arrival becomes possible. When performing follow traveling to a forward traveling vehicle, the safe and efficient follow traveling not through brake operation is enabled by knowing an inter-vehicle distance to the forward traveling vehicle, a relative speed and a safe inter-vehicle distance, and alternately repeating an acceleration travel start and the coast start in the same specific inter-vehicle distance satisfying the safe inter-vehicle distance, or by performing the coast travel start and the acceleration travel start when arriving at upper and lower limit values Vs+Vr1 and Vs-Vr1 in a relative speed range with the forward traveling vehicle wherein the relative speed is predetermined, wherein Vs is a forward traveling vehicle travel speed, and Vr1 is a setting relative speed with the forward traveling vehicle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
