PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire for heavy load enhancing tire durability by strengthening protection function of a carcass layer by improving compression fatigue property of a chafer reinforcement layer by suppressing fretting abrasion generated between a steel cord body and a wrapping filament in a steel cord used for the chafer reinforcement layer. SOLUTION: The steel cord 4S constituting the chafer reinforcement layer 4 is constituted by the steel cord body comprising a plurality of steel filaments 4a, 4b and the wrapping filament 4z helically wound on the periphery.
