The method involves collecting a coupling signal during removal of an actuating element (10) from a display surface (4) in a time-resolved manner after tangential actuation of the actuating element. A calibration value is determined by a time-resolved affiliated coupling signal. Approximation of the actuating element is utilized for conveying measurement of the approximation of the actuating element to the display surface. Modification of a graphical representation is carried out based on the measurement of the approximation of the actuating element. An independent claim is also included for a display-and controlling device comprising a position determining device.
