<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metadata editing device which automatically extracts and generates metadata required for MXF filing from a content under reproducing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The metadata editing device prepares a known keyword candidate included in a program material as a dictionary in each of a video image recognition processing portion P3, a voice recognition processing portion P4 and a metadata generating portion P8, wherein a keyword is extracted from the program material data reproduced via a tape reproducing portion R in a telop separating portion P2, the video image recognition processing portion P3, and the voice recognition processing portion P4 for sequential comparison with the keyword candidates which a thesaurus dictionary stores and accumulates in the metadata generating portion P8, the keyword with high correlation and frequency of occurrence is presented to an operator, and then metadata is generated in response to operators's input for transfer to a video server S.
