<p>An image projector comprises a lighting device for lighting up a high-voltage electric-discharge lamp, a rotary color filter, an image display unit, and a synchronizer. The rotary color filter is divided into a plurality of segments in the rotating direction. The synchronizer detects a rotating state of the rotary color filter, and outputs a synchronization signal which turns on in synchronization with a period wherein one of the plural segments is located on an optical path to the lighting device on a basis of the detected rotating state of the rotary color filter. A period calculating portion of the lighting device calculates a period wherein each of the plural segments is located on the optical path based on the time duration wherein the synchronization signal is in an on state, a center angle of each of the plural segments, and the order in which the plural segments are located on the optical path.</p> |
