<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent brightness of digital image data for contrast AF from being different from that of a through image even when a contrast AF mode is entered by the start of a contrast AF operation for imaging operation while the through image is displayed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus determines an amount of luminance variation as a difference between digital image data in the through image display and digital image data for contrast AF when the through image display mode is changed to the contrast AF mode, and corrects the digital image data for contrast AF to be displayed on an image display unit on the basis of the amount of luminance variation.
