PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner in which an abnormal rotation of a polygon mirror is accurately detected with software even when instantaneous lock disengagement occurs. SOLUTION: The optical scanner is so composed that a polygon lock signal XSCRDY is generated by extending the high level (ineffective state) of the lock signal by adding a predetermined term to the term in which the lock signal is set in the High level (ineffective state). Thus, the polygon lock signal XSCRDY is surely detected with the software and the abnormal rotation of the polygon mirror is accurately detected even when the instantaneous lock disengagement occurs.
