PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil composition exerting minimum negative impact on exhaust gas after-treatment devices. SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition comprises (A) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and (B) a minor amount of an oil-soluble zinc salt of a dithiophosphoric acid as an additive component. The dithiophosphoric acid is a reaction product of phosphorus pentasulphide with a mixture of at least one first alcohol of the formula ROH, wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbyl group having at least four carbon atoms or an alkaryl group, and at least one second alcohol which is an ester of a polyhydric alcohol.
