Further comprised is an electrode layer for performing at least one of the voltage application and the current application normal to the film face of the resistance-varying portion. The resistance-varying element is characterized in that at least one of the voltage and current to transit among a plurality of different states in the first resistance-varying layer and at least one of the voltage and current to transit among a plurality of different states in the second resistance-varying layer are different from each other.
