<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve gear of a simple structure for an internal combustion engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The variable valve gear includes a first cam follower 23i making a tip part front surface thereof contact and slide on a first cam 17i, a second cam follower 24i making a tip part front surface thereof contact and slide on a second cam 18i, a lifter 25i making a tip part thereof face the first and the second cam follower 23i, 24i in such a manner that the same can abut on a both tip part back surfaces and opening and closing the engine valve 12i by receiving oscillation of one of the first and the second cam followers 23i, 24i, and an actuator 36 making the first cam follower 23i travel between an operation position A making the first cam follower 23i intervene between the first cam 17i and the lifter 25i and a non-operation position making the same evacuate from a section between the first cam 17a and the lifter 25i. Oscillation of the first cam follower 23i by the first cam 17i is transmitted to the lifter 25i at the operation position A of the second cam follower 24i, and oscillation of the second cam follower 24i by the second com 18i is transmitted to the lifters 25i, 25e at the non-operation position B.
