Preparation comprises an extract of at least one type of Echinaceaor its subspecies, where the preparation is either present in such a form which is suited for inhalation, pulmonary, nasal, buccal, ocular and/or parenteral, preferably intravenous or subcutaneous, administration, or in such a form which prevents the virus from penetrating into the human and/or animal body, provided that the nasal administration of the preparation in the form of nasal drops, nasal sprays, metered sprays and nasal ointments for the treatment of viral infections of the nasopharyngeal space is excluded.
