PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting leakage of a light emitting diode and a method thereof is provided to improve the reliability and stability of the light emitting diode by sensing the leakage current in advance. CONSTITUTION: A signal manager(10) changes the frequency of an electric signal which is applied for the operation of the light emitting diode. A sensor(30) senses the state of radiation of the light emitting diode according to the frequency shift of the electric signal. A determining unit(40) determines whether the leakage current from the light emitting diode according to a detection result.
