PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a perlite used for heat insulation by which perlite can be easily and efficiently treated and which is suitable for continuous treatment. SOLUTION: This method for treating a perlite used for heat insulation comprises pulverizing perlite by a ball mill and decreasing the volume of perlite. Volume decrease is preferably carried out by controlling the surface speed of the ball mill to be 35-65 m/min. and the volume ratio of balls to perlite to be treated by the ball mill to be 1.3 or higher. Consequently, treatment can easily and efficiently be carried out and also continuous treatment is made possible.
