<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reading apparatus which horizontally contacts the edge of a document feeding plate to a contact surface to prevent the occurrence of document jam even if a document feeder dose not position horizontally to the document reading apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The document feeding plate 31 is provided in the vicinity of a downward feeding roller 13. In the document feeding plate 31, a pair of front and back turning axes 25 and 25 is fit with a pair of support holes 26a and 26b of a support frame 26 that is a support member of the document feeding part, and is supported so as to rotate upward and downward. The turning axes 25 and 25 of the document feeding plate 31 are supported by a circular support hole 26a in front of the device, and are supported by an elliptical support hole 26b which is elliptically formed in the up and down directions in the back of the device.
