<p>Isopropanol is prepared by passing gaseous propylene through a liquid bath comprising sulphuric acid and water in the relative proportion by weight of <FORM:0978926/C1/1> at a temperature of 70 DEG to 80 DEG C. and at an absolute pressure of 1.5 to 6 kg./cm.2. The isopropanol is entrained, as it is formed, by the residual gas stream. A catalyst may be present, e.g. a silver or copper salt. Specification 798,260 is referred to.</p> |
