<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen production unit capable of more efficiently yielding high purity hydrogen by preventing the alloying of a hydrogen separation membrane and the generation of damages therein, and to provide a high purity hydrogen production method using the unit. <P>SOLUTION: The hydrogen production unit X1 is provided with: a reforming means having a reforming catalyst 10 and generating steam reformed gas S by subjecting a gaseous starting material M to a steam reforming reaction using the reforming catalyst; and a hydrogen separating means 11 for selectively separating gaseous hydrogen H from the steam reformed gas S. The reforming means and the hydrogen separating means 11 are stored inside a single reactor. The unit is further provided with a separating means 12 for separating the reforming catalyst 10 in the reforming means and the hydrogen separating means 11. A space between the separating means 12 and the hydrogen separating means 11 is provided with a gap 15 through which the steam reformed gas S passes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
